Ever since Broadcom closed its acquisition of VMware, the company has made sweeping changes to VMware’s software licensing, product portfolio, and partner program.

The details of the main changes are explained below.
Development & Organizational Change
- The name of the division is VCF – VMware Cloud Foundation division.
- VCF combines the following four units into one single division:
- vSphere
- vSAN
- NSX
- Aria
Product Bundling Change
- Products will be sold in two bundles:
- VCF (for larger enterprises)
- VMware vSphere Foundation (for smaller customers)
- Both bundles will have offers of add-on options.
- All the earlier 9000 SKUs and 160 sales package bundles will be streamlined into the above two product bundles.
Licensing Change
- Perpetual licenses will not be sold.
- All new fresh purchases will be on a Subscription model.
- Older customers who are currently on a Perpetual license model will need to migrate to the new model.
- Older customers cannot add on additional licenses to their perpetual licenses.
- Older customers on perpetual licenses cannot renew their SnS contracts.
- Broadcom will allow customers to trade-in their perpetual licenses for fresh subscriptions.
