This page lists which Oracle products usually go into a ULA and which Oracle tends to refuse. It is for IT and procurement teams planning a ULA or reading an existing one. For the basics, see what an Oracle ULA is.
What products get included in a ULA
Customers need to know what a ULA includes and excludes. Oracle has offered ULAs on almost all products in its price list that have:
- a perpetual license, and
- a license metric based on the number of users or the number of processors or cores on the server.
Excluded products
In our experience, Oracle has not given customers ULAs when:
- the product contains a third-party, non-open-source software program
- the product has a subscription license
- the product is generally available but has a very large number of critical support issues. Oracle sales people have refused to include specific products in ULAs for this reason in some of our consulting engagements.
Popular products in Oracle ULAs
Technology products
- Oracle Database Enterprise Edition
- Oracle Database options
- Oracle Database management packs
- Oracle WebLogic Suite (also WebLogic Enterprise)
- Oracle SOA Suite
- Oracle GoldenGate
Application products
Application products are generally weaker candidates for a ULA than technology products. Even so, Oracle has sold a very large number of ULAs that include them. The ones we see most are:
- Siebel CRM
- E-Business Suite: Financials, CRM, EAM, Purchasing and Human Resources (and its options)
When the term ends, see Oracle ULA certification.
An audit letter, a renewal quote or a ULA end date on your desk? We check what Oracle, Microsoft, IBM or Broadcom is claiming, work out what you owe under your contract, defend against audits, and negotiate the rest down.
